Chris Thornhill

Our Safer Neighbourhood teams covering Alvaston and Boulton in Derby have a new sergeant in charge.

Sergeant Chris Thornhill started in his new role at the end of last month on Monday, February 27. He takes over from Sergeant Graham Young who retains his responsibilities for Chellaston, Sinfin and Osmaston although the two will both be based at Cotton Lane Police Station and so will work closely together.

Chris began his career with Derbyshire police in 2002 and started out as a police officer in Long Eaton. When he was promoted to Sergeant in 2009 he moved to Derby where he has worked as a patrol sergeant and in the custody suite at St Mary’s Wharf Police Station before then working from Cotton Lane Police Station as a patrol sergeant 2015.

Sergeant Thornhill said of his latest move: “I am really looking forward to my new role. I was brought up in Boulton and so feel a strong connection to the area and am committed to keeping the area a safe place to live, work and visit.

“Graham has been doing a great job leading the teams for this area and I am pleased that I will be working alongside him as he continues to lead the teams in Chellaston, Sinfin and Osmaston.”
