Derby East officers team up with Derby Homes to host number plate security event in Sinfin

Posted on 23rd July 2014

Officers in Derby East are holding another number plate security event later this week.

Members of the public who attend can have special security screws fitted to their number plates for free, which makes the number plate itself difficult to remove and prevent it being stolen and possibly used for another crime.

The event is being run by Derby East Safer Neighbourhood Officers in conjunction with the Derby Homes Crime Prevention Team on Friday 25th July.

It will take place in the car park of Asda in Sinfin and will run from 10am through to 2.30pm.

The security screws have been provided by Sharon Booth, the local Neighbourhood Officer for Osmaston and Sinfin and the screws will be fitted free of charge by Derby Homes staff.

Sgt Simon Hawley who manages the team said: “Stolen number plates can be used by criminals to hide the identity of vehicles, which are then used to commit crime.

“It is important that victims of this crime report the theft to police as soon as possible. This gives opportunity for officers to stop any vehicles bearing the stolen plates before they are involved in any offences.

“By having these free screws fitted to your vehicle, you become less likely to be a victim of this crime.”

Please note the Derby Homes staff will be taking a break for 30 minutes from 12.00 to 12.30pm and screws will not be fitted during this period.
