Residents in Sinfin and surrounding areas are being encouraged to get their hands on free number plate security screws and tool marking at an upcoming police event.
The Sinfin and Osmaston Safer Neighbourhood Team are set to host a crime prevention event to encourage residents to boost their security over the summer months.
The event will to take place at the Sinfin Moor Social Club on Arleston Lane on Friday, June 12. It will run between 10am and 2.30pm, with a 30 minute lunch break from 12noon to 12.30pm.
Safer Neighbourhood officers will be teaming up with the Derby Homes Crime Prevention Team to fit free number plate security screws to vehicles. They will also be running a tool marking service for local residents and self-employed tradespeople.
Members from Neighbourhood Watch groups will also be in attendance to chat to residents and give them the opportunity to purchase cut-price home security kits, such as shed alarms.
Sergeant Simon Hawley, who oversees Safer Neighbourhood in the area, said: "This event is all about making local residents more aware of the crimes that are happening in the Sinfin area and to provide information and equipment that can help prevent them from becoming a victim of crime.
"Theft of number plates seems to be a particular issue around the Sinfin area at present, so the Derby Homes Crime Prevention Team will be on hand to fit free security screws to vehicles.
"We will be providing a tool marking service, which is suitable for drills, lawnmowers and similar. Any local residents and tradespeople, such as plumbers and builders, are encouraged to come along and have their tools security marked for free. We look forward to seeing you there."
