The Derbyshire Constabulary Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team for Derwent, Chaddesden, Oakwood and Spondon has been awarded the Derby Homes Lionel Massingham Award for partner of the year.
The Lionel Massingham Award recognises the work of Derby Homes’ Board Member, Lionel Massingham, who sadly passed away in 2006.
Derby Homes staff were asked to nominate partner organisations who they feel have worked well with them over the past year. The nominations were judged by a panel of staff and board members.
The Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team was nominated by Lorraine Howe, Housing and Neighbourhood Manager,
Lorraine said: "We work very closely as a partnership, and if there are any issues in the neighbourhood, we work together to solve them through tasking meetings and action on the ground. I feel that the support I receive from the local team enhances my role as a housing officer."
The team has worked in partnership with both the Family Intervention Project and the Neighbourhood Safety Team at Derby Homes to tackle and resolve issues within the community.
Councillor Philip Ingall said: "I am delighted that the good work of this team has been recognised this year.
"There is clear benefit to the tenants that where Derby Homes and the Police jointly tackle a problem of anti social behaviour, it has a bigger positive impact and leaves the tenant and community with a higher level of confidence in both agencies."
Mrs Massingham presented the award to Sergeant Graham Young and Sergeant Mark Bonser at the Derby Homes Annual General Meeting at the end of October.
Sgt Graham Young said: "The Chaddesden Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team are pleased to accept this award from Derby Homes in recognition of the partnership work we do with them in tackling anti-social behaviour.
"The Derby Homes staff at Sussex Circus Housing Office work hard to tackle local issues of anti-social behaviour in the local neighbourhood to make lives better for the residents of Derby. We support them in their work with information sharing and support in problem areas to tackle local issues.
"It is clear that we cannot solve problems alone, we need the help and support of other agencies to target and resolve local issues."
