Street drinking and begging.

Actions to be taken are as follows:
  • High-visibility foot patrols have been conducted at peak times
  • Powers utilised under Section 13 of the Criminal Justice and Police Act 2001 which allows for the seizure of alcohol and/or a fixed penalty ticket to be issued where alcohol consumption is taking place in designated public places (namely Derby City Centre)
  • Use of local authority CCTV cameras to help identify persistent offenders
  • Off licences and supermarkets educated and advised to stop serving street drinkers
  • Use of Criminal Behaviour Orders to deter re-offending
  • Speak to Licenced premises re serving/selling alcohol
  • Work in partnership with local agencies to implement long term solutions and support

Theft from person and bike theft

Actions to be taken are as follows:
  • Conduct high visibility and plain clothes patrols.
  • Use of local authority CCTV cameras to help identify offenders
  • Raise awareness with bike users about security measures they could take to prevent theft
  • Crime prevention events to highlight the issues of theft from person such as purse thefts
  • A number of offenders have been arrested and charged with theft offences.

Illegal drug use in city centre

Actions to be taken are as follows:
  • The team conduct their daily business gathering and acting on local community information.
  • Where the intelligence supports such action misuse of drugs warrants are executed along with routine patrols and stop and search.
  • The team also work closely with the divisional pro-active team and support each other in drug operations.
  • Work partner agencies to reduce and deter drug use.
  • Police enforcement tactics have result have resulted in a number of arrests and the recovery of drugs. Suspects remain on bail pending further enquires. Stop search, section 34 dispersals and other disruption tactics remain in place to prevent and deter drug activity and Anti-Social Behaviour.

Actions to be taken are as follows:
  • High visibility patrols
  • Police linked into radio systems such as Shopwatch
  • Greater use of store detectives/security officers and cctv monitoring
  • Use of Criminal Behaviour Orders to deter re-offending
  • We are entering a period where shoptheft traditionally has increased. Operation Reindeer has started today 15/12/16 and will run through until 02/01/17. Extra patrols have been put in place to provide reassurance to retailers and visitors to the city. A number prolific shoplifters have been arrested one receiving a prison sentence of 30 weeks.
