Police call on young witnesses to come forward following assault

One of our officers is asking for help from three potential witnesses to an assault in Derby earlier this year.

On Tuesday, August 8, we believe three young ‘teenage’ men to have witnessed a man assaulting a woman on the River Gardens, near the bus station.

Now, we are keen for them to come forward and give evidence.

At around 1.40pm that day, a man is alleged to have snatched a 49-year-old woman’s metal walking stick and strike her over the head with it.

We understand one of the young witnesses called out for the alleged attacker to stop. A 53-year-old man was arrested and released under investigation.

The matter is being investigated by PC Vicki Marriott, who explained further: “I know that this incident happened a few months ago but we believe that these young men may have witnessed the alleged assault and so we would be really pleased to be able to have a chat with them about what they saw.”

If you can help, please call Vicky on 101, quoting reference number 17000343882.

Alternatively, send her a message online by visiting the Contact Us section of our website HERE.
