Officers from our Derby City Centre Safer Neighbourhood Team will be in based in banks across the city this week to offer shoppers Christmas crime prevention advice.

They have joined forces with staff at Halifax, Natwest, Barclays, Santander, Nationwide, Lloyds, HSBC and Royal Bank of Scotland to ensure that there will someone available to speak to shoppers about what they can do to help keep themselves safe at this time of year.

The event takes place tomorrow, Tuesday, December 4 and Wednesday, December 5.

Sergeant Jamie Millard , who is in charge of the team, said: “We realise that this is a particular busy time of year and it is easy for shoppers to get distracted as they focus on the presents that they need to buy.

“We unfortunately know that there are people that will look to take advantage of this distraction. Officers will be on hand with bank staff to offer advice about what people can do to keep safe both whilst out shopping and online.”

Officers will be at Halifax, East St and Natwest, Barclays and Santander between 10am and 12 midday then again between 2pm and 4pm on the Tuesday.

Then on the Wednesday, between the same times at the Nationwide on Albion St, Royal Bank of Scotland in the Cornmarket and Lloyds and HSBC on St Peter’s Street.

Part of the advice being given can be found on the attached leaflet which can be downloaded and printed.
