One of our officers from the Derby City Centre Safer Neighbourhood Team has released images of two men he would like to speak to.
The move comes after a woman tourist from Singapore was robbed of her phone whilst she was taking some photographs in the River Gardens area of the city.
The incident happened at around 1pm on the afternoon of Thursday, November 22. The 54-year-old woman was sightseeing, whilst her daughter, who she was in Derby visiting, was at work, when her phone was snatched from her hands.
We would like to speak to the two men in the images about this theft.
The incident is being investigated by PC Steve Broadhurst from the team, who said: “This is a horrible thing to have happened to a visitor to our city and the victim is understandably shaken-up by what happened.
“What was really good to see though was that two separate groups of people intervened and stopped the suspects as they ran off.
“One group of runners stopped the men as they ran off and tried to recover the phone, when the suspects wouldn’t hand it over two other men, who were sitting on a nearby bench, intervened and insisted the phone was handed over which it was. The two suspected robbers then ran-off.
“We know the identity of the runners that helped but we would like to know who these two men on the bench were to thank them and speak to them further about the incident.
“Thanks to all these people who helped, the victim has her phone back and her faith in the people of Derby somewhat restored, but we would now like to trace the suspects, so if you think you know who they are please make contact with me.”
If you think you can help, please get in touch with Steve using one of the following non-emergency contact methods and quoting the reference number 18*572634.
