A prolific city centre burglar has been jailed after committing a further offence this week.

At around 12.45pm on Tuesday, April 17, Damien Round (38) of Abbey Street, Derby walked into a first floor office building on St James Street and stole various items, including money and a pair of sunglasses, from an unlocked cabinet.

He was disturbed by the victim before leaving the building. Later that day plain-clothed officers from our pro-active unit were on separate enquiries in the city centre when they saw Mr Round, recognised him from the description passed by the victim and he was arrested.

Yesterday, Wednesday, April 18, Damien Round appeared at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court where he pleaded guilty to the offence of burglary and was sentenced to a total of 44 weeks imprisonment. This sentence included the implementation of a suspended sentence of 18 weeks for a previous offence.
