Suspected drug dealer arrested after police stop search on Derby park

A man has been arrested on a Derby park after trying to run from police conducting drug stop searches. 

The incident happened after officers from the Littleover and Blagreaves Safer Neighbourhood Team attended Sunnydale Park, off Blagreaves Lane, littleover on the afternoon of Tuesday, May, 23. 

They were there following concerns from local residents about alleged drug dealing and use in the area and after approaching a group of people one ran from the officers. 

After a short foot chase, a 20 year-old man from Stenson Fields was detained, searched and a quanity, of what officers believe to be cannabis was found in a number of small bags, along with a set of scales. He was arrested on suspicion of Possession of a Class B drug with intent to supply, taken in to custody and interviewed. He has now been released under investigation. 

Sergeant Alex Wood, who is in charge of Safer Neighbourhood policing in the area and made the arrest, said: “This action shows that we are listening to the concerns of the community. We know that this type of alleged activity is a concern, can lead to other offences and anti-social behaviour that we will not tolerate.”
