A new inspector has taken charge of policing in Erewash.

Inspector Jim Thompson takes over the reins today (Monday, July 11) from Inspector Katie Andrews and is now responsible for policing Ilkeston, Long Eaton and surrounding areas.

Inspector Thompson has more than 18 years of policing service which has seen him experience a number of roles and sections.

Jim, who joined Derbyshire police in 1998, has spent time working in Matlock, Swadlincote and Derby working his way from patrol constable, to sergeant, before promotion to inspector last year.

Inspector Thompson said of his latest move: “I am really pleased to have been given the opportunity to manage the Erewash Local Policing Unit. We have a committed policing team here and it is my aim that we listen to our community and work with our partner agencies to tackle the issues that affect them the most.

“ I will endeavour to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour and robustly target those who make the lives of others a misery to continue tokeep Erewash a safe place to live and visit”
