D Division Neighbourhood Watch tours local communities to raise awareness of crime prevention

Posted on 9th September 2014

Members of D Division Neighbourhood Watch Support Group have been touring the local area of Derby in a bid to raise awareness about crime prevention.

The group recently attended a number of events and community days throughout the division alongside local Safer Neighbourhood officers to try and help people become more security conscious.

Brian Farthing, the Chair of NHW at D Division organised for crime prevention items to be available for purchase alongside security marking bikes and offering crime prevention advice.

Amongst many events the group visited The Spirit of Chellaston Day, Alvaston Park Fun Day, Rolls Royce at the Victory Road and Raynesway site, B & Q in Osmaston, ASDA in Spondon and Sainsbury’s on Kedleston Road.

The events also gave residents the chance to speak to the policing team about any issues affecting their communities and gain advice on crime prevention.

Brian Farthing said:” We would like to say a big thank you to our Safer Neighbourhood Teams who supported us on the various days we were out and about and to the companies that allowed us to carry this crime prevention work out on their premises.

“Our team so far have raised over £1000 through the sale of Smart water, Shed Alarms and bike marking.

“These funds go straight back into purchasing further crime prevention items and we can keep the cycle going.

“Our work in this field is very rewarding and gives us the chance to meet lots of people and spread the word about how communities can come together and reduce crime in their area.”

To speak to your local Safer Neighbourhood team about upcoming events ring 101, the non-emergency number for Derbyshire police.
