Van owners in South Derbyshire are being invited to have their tools marked for free at an event in Hilton.
The invitation comes after a number of thefts from vans parked up overnight in the village.
The event will be held between 11am and 3pm on Saturday, December 3 in the car park of the Hilton Brook Public House, Eggington Road.
PC Joe Stafford from the Etwall, Hatton and Hilton Safer Neighbourhood Team said: “The theft of power tools from vans continues to be a problem and there is a lot of work being done to try and prevent further offences and catch the offenders.
“One of the things that does help is to make sure that tools are security marked, this makes them less attractive to steal because if the offenders are caught with the property we can prove that they are not the rightful owner.
“We have worked with South Derbyshire District Council to be able to offer a free tool marking session and would encourage any van owners to come down and take advantage of the offer. We will also be able to give some general crime prevention advice.”
