Number plate security event for motorists in Hilton

Posted on 18th August 2014

Residents living in South Derbyshire have the chance to pick up free anti-theft number plate screws this week.

Safer South Derbyshire Partnership is joining up with local officers to offer the security screws to motorists in the Hilton area.

The screws are special ‘one way’ devices which simply replace the standard screws which are fitted to number plates to prevent it from being removed by a thief.

Community Manager Chris Smith from the Partnership said: “We’re offering these simple devices to local residents to help reduce the potential of number plates being taken by offenders who may switch them onto another vehicle.

“They can then potentially commit crimes such as driving off from petrol forecourts without paying for fuel or are able to avoid speeding or parking penalties but having these fitted will make it much harder for the plates to be stolen.”

Officers from the local Hilton Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team will be on hand to assist and provide further crime prevention advice to motorists.

A member of the Community Voluntary Sector (CVS) will be fitting the security screws free of charge.

The number plate event will take place on Thursday, August 21 between 3.30 and 6.30pm at Hilton Village Hall, Peacroft Lane in Hilton.
