Vehicle owners invited to secure their number plates in Swadlincote

Posted on 24th July 2014

Officers in South Derbyshire will be hosting a number plate security event next week.

The event is taking place to address the theft of number plate offences, and will take place on Monday, July 28 between 3.30 – 6.30pm in Morrison’s car park in Swadlincote.

Members of the public are encouraged to attend and have free tamper proof security screws fitted to the number plates on their vehicles.

Officers from the Central Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team will be on hand to deliver crime prevention advice.

They will also be joined by a member of the Community Voluntary Sector (CVS), who will be fitting the tamper proof screws.

Chris Smith the Communities Manager from the Safer South Derbyshire Partnership said: “Theft of number plates is a crime which causes inconvenience to the victim along with the cost of buying replacements.

“By having these security screws fitted, it makes you less likely to become a victim of this crime.

“All you need to do is bring along your car, van or motor bike and we will install the screws, it only takes a couple of minutes.”
