PC Louise Stevenson and PCSO Dave McMillan with the Overseal Girl Guide Unit
Our officers from the Overseal Safer Neighbourhood Team have spent the evening with a local guide group to discuss a range of safety issues.
The event was held at the senior section of Overseal Girl Guide unit, yesterday evening, Wednesday, March 8 when officers met with a group of guides aged between 14 and 17 years.
PC Louise Stevenson, Safer Neighbourhood youth officer, said: ”It was a great opportunity for us to meet a group of girls in an informal setting and discuss a wide range of personal safety issues.
“We spoke about keeping safe online, sexting, keeping safe at parties, how police deal with young people, keeping safe when travelling in cars and including the new mobile phone legislation.
“The girls are all at the age where they are having to start taking responsibilities for their actions and it was good to be able to give them information to help them make informed decisions.”
Guide Leader Sarah Lowden said: “This was a meeting that the guides requested and we were really pleased that the officers could make the time to come and talk about these important issues.
“Part of the aim of the guides unit is to help encourage independence and this really helped in giving the girls important information for when they start making their own way.”
