Our officers from the Melbourne Safer Neighbourhood Team in Melbourne, South Derbyshire have thanked the public after a CCTV appeal.
Last month we released CCTV footage after the Christmas tree and lights in the town square were damaged on the evening of Friday, December 1.
Within a few hours of us releasing details of the incident we received a call from a member of the public naming a suspect.
Officers from the team have now spoken to this man, a 37 year-old from Coton-in-the-Elms. He has fully admitted his involvement and with the agreement of Melbourne Parish Council has agreed to pay for the damage caused.
PCSO Emma Guest from the team, said: “I would like to thank the public for the response we had to the appeal. As a result of information we received we have now interviewed a man who has admitted his involvement.
“He has shown genuine remorse for his action and is now being dealt with by way of restorative justice. With the agreement of the parish council the man is paying for the damage he caused.”
