PCSO pops in to chat to over-50s forum about protecting themselves from crime

Posted on 24th October 2013

Personal safety and crime prevention tips were the order of the day during a police visit to a South Derbyshire over-50s group.

PCSO Emma Guest, from Melbourne Safer Neighbourhood Team, visited the group in Barrow-upon-Trent as part of the annual National Personal Safety awareness day.

The visit featured tips on how people can protect themselves from crime when out and about.

The talk, which took place at the Brookfield Club on the afternoon of Thursday, October 17, also featured Paul Smith, from Derbyshire County Council’s Trading Standards department.

He spoke to the 30-strong group about a variety of issues including doorstep sellers, rogue traders and distraction burglary techniques.

PCSO Guest said: “The National Personal Safety day was all about giving people useful information and advice about how they can protect themselves from criminals and stay safe at home and when out and about in public.

“The reaction we had on the day was fantastic and the wide range of topics we spoke about will hopefully give people a better understanding of crime prevention.”
