Newhall damaged Grave One of the damaged gravestones

Our officers in Swadlincote are investigating offences of criminal damage to gravestones in a Newhall cemetery.

The damage was caused some time over the weekend of Saturday, April 8 to Monday, April 10. A number of gravestones appear to have been deliberately pushed over, scratched and damaged in the cemetery on Church Street, Newhall in South Derbyshire.

Patrols are to be increased by the Newhall and Midway Safer Neighbourhood Team and the officer dealing with the damage has asked for help from the public.

PCSO Craig Thompson from the team said: “This is a particularly thoughtless crime that we know will be particularly upsetting to the friends and families connected with the damaged gravestones.

“I would urge that if anyone knows anything about the damage that they make contact with us.”

If you think you can help, please call on 101 quoting reference number 17000152567.
