A robber who broke into a pensioner’s home and punched her before taking cash and jewellery has been jailed for eleven years.
Thomas Kennedy admitted robbing the 80-year-old at her flat in Uttoxeter Old Road, Derby, on January 2.
The victim told us that a man used the video intercom system to call her, claiming he needed to come in and check her welfare on behalf of her family.
She was suspicious and refused to let him in. He smashed the front door and demanded her purse, punching her in the face when she said she had no money.
Kennedy demanded her rings and took her purse from her bag before leaving.
The 47-year-old, of Uttoxeter Old Road, was sentenced at Derby Crown Court on Thursday, May 10.
Investigating officer DC Stephanie Ross of Derby CID said: “This was a particularly vicious crime on a defenceless lady in her own home.
“I am delighted with this result and I hope his imprisonment will protect other vulnerable people in Derby.”
