Bag snatch suspect hit by car in Normanton Road Derby

Police in Derby are investigating a handbag snatch where the alleged robber was later hit by a car.

The incident happened just after 12 noon yesterday (Thursday February 2) on Normanton Road in the city when a woman had her bag stolen in an alleyway leading to Southgate retail park.

As her bag was grabbed she fell and injured her knee and head.

Witnesses saw two youths run from the alleyway across Normanton Road.  One of them was hit by a Skoda and sustained serious injuries. The other ran away.

The woman’s bag was found in the road.

A 16-year-old boy was arrested shortly afterwards and a 17-year-old youth was taken to hospital. He remains in the Royal Derby Hospital where he is being treated for a fractured leg.

The 16-year-old remained in police custody overnight. Both youths are from Derby.
