Derbyshire Friend has awarded Derbyshire Constabulary its Organisation of the Year award.
The registered charity offers specialist support and advocacy services to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) people.
Derbyshire Friend assessed more than 20 organisations for this award, visiting the force in November 2011 to find out how it engages with the LGBT community.
The charity's chief executive, Andy Cave, presented the award at the Gay Police Association Annual General Meeting. The certificate was accepted by the force’s LGBT co-coordinator PC Andy Sudbury and Chief Superintendent Russ Foster.
Derbyshire Friend produced a report outlining what the force does well in this area and how it could improve. The force will use the report to better tailor the services it offers to the LGBT community.
