Police are appealing for witnesses to an attempted armed robbery in Swadlincote.
Officers were called to the Tesco store on Hearthcote Road in the town at 6.30pm today (Wednesday June 27) when several men tried to rob two security guards.
The men, who were wearing balaclavas, and appeared to be armed with a variety of weapons, followed the security guards into to store as they delivered cash. The guards locked themselves into a room within the shop and the offenders fled empty-handed.
Officers believe the men left the area in a silver estate car.
A woman shopper received medical attention for a minor injury.
More details will be available tomorrow when the police have been able to question witnesses.
Anyone who has information that would help the investigation should contact the police on 101 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
