Information appeal after cars set on fire in Eckington

Posted on 22nd August 2013

Detectives are appealing for information after an arson attack in Eckington left four cars damaged.

Emergency services were called to an address on High Street at around 1am to reports of four cars parked on a driveway which were on fire.

It is believed the fire was started in a Mini Cooper and the heat caused the fire to spread to three other cars, a Ford Fiesta, a Ford Ka and a Toyota Rav 4, that were parked on the same drive.

Fire fighters put out the blaze and no one was injured.

A joint investigation by police and the fire service is underway.

Officers are keen to speak to anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the area around the time of the fire or if someone they know has any unexplained burns or scorch marks on their body or clothes.

Police would also like to speak to anyone who saw a dark coloured car, possibly a Ford Focus, in the area around the time of the fire.

Officers are looking at a link between that car and a Ford Focus found abandoned at the junction of Birley Lane and Birley Moor Road in the Owlthorpe area of Sheffield.

The abandoned car had been stolen from a house in Eckington earlier in the night.

Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call CID on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
