Detectives appeal for witnesses after a woman is robbed in Derby

Detectives are appealing for witnesses to a robbery where an elderly woman suffered facial injuries when a man grabbed her bag from her.

At around 7.10pm on Monday, February 18, an 82-year-old woman was walking along Derwent Street, Derby. As she walked beneath the underpass, a man approached her, lifted the flap of her shopping trolley and took her handbag.

She kept hold of her bag but the robber snatched it from her, causing her to fall over. The robber ran off and passers-by came to the victim’s aid. She was taken to hospital where she needed stitches to a cut on her forehead. She also suffered cuts, bruising and swelling to her hand.

Police have arrested an 18-year-old man on suspicion of robbery. He has been questioned and released on bail pending further inquiries.
