Gas leak causes evacuation of premises in Chesterfield
Posted on 19th July 2013
Emergency services have re-opened roads that were closed due to a serious gas leak in Chesterfield.
The police were alerted at 2pm that a gas main was leaking at the building site of the new Aldi store off Sheffield Road in the town.
The Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service advised that premises in the area should be evacuated as a precaution and that process had begun when the leak was sealed by National Grid engineers.
Sheffield Road had been closed to traffic and a local diversion had been set up along Peveril Road.
Roads have now re-opened and people are being allowed back into their homes.
