Whitwell assault victim dies in hospital

Officers investigating a serious assault in Whitwell have revealed that the victim has died.
The police investigation began after a 39-year-old Worksop man was assaulted at premises on Holmefield Road in the early hours of Saturday July 20 during an argument. He was initially taken to hospital for treatment however his health deteriorated. He died in Bassetlaw Hospital yesterday afternoon (Wednesday July 24).
A post mortem examination will be carried out today to determine the cause of the man’s death. His name is likely to be released later today after a formal identification.
Officers from the East Midland Major Crime Unit are working with local Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire officers on the investigation.
The investigation is continuing.
