Taxi driver assaults woman on journey from Nottingham to Long Eaton

Detectives are trying to trace a taxi driver who assaulted a passenger and took her mobile phone.

A 22-year-old woman had enjoyed a night out in Nottingham with friends on Saturday, September 22 and the three women decided to get a taxi home at around 3.30am the next day.

They caught a taxi from the rank opposite Yates Wine Bar, in Angel Row, Nottingham. The taxi dropped the other two women off at their homes and the driver and victim continued toward Long Eaton.

Suddenly, he stopped the taxi in Nelson Street and sexually assaulted the woman before taking her mobile phone.

She got out of the taxi and ran away.

The taxi is described as a dark green people carrier style vehicle. The driver is Asian, middle-aged and balding. He wore a white shirt, black trousers and a khaki coloured jacket.

Police are urging people to be vigilant when taking taxis by making sure the vehicle is displaying a license before getting in. Also consider booking a taxi home in advance.
