A 52-year-old man from Northamptonshire sustained serious injuries when he was in collision with a Ford Transit box van just after 2am on The Green in Willington.

The injured man had been working with colleagues in the area of The Green and was packing their vehicle, a Ford Transit panel van, when it was allegedly stolen.

The man was taken to Queen’s Medical Centre where he remains in a serious condition. His injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

A 41-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and theft of a vehicle. He will be questioned by officers today.

The road was closed until around noon while officers carried out investigations at the scene.

Anyone with information about the collision or who saw the vehicles being abandoned should ring Derbyshire police on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously 0800 555 111.
