Police are investigating a road traffic collision which occurred at The Green in Willington at 2.07am today (Wednesday Oct 16).

A 52-year-old man from Northamptonshire sustained serious injuries when he was in collision with a Ford Transit box van.

The man had been working with colleagues in the area of The Green and was packing their vehicle, a Ford Transit panel van, when it was stolen. The circumstances of the collision are still unclear but it is believed that the van thieves collided with the man as they drove away.

The victim was taken to the Royal Derby Hospital with multiple serious injuries.

The road is closed and disruption to traffic is likely this morning.

Anyone with information about the collision or who saw the vehicles being abandoned should ring the police on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously 0800 555 111.
