Police appeal for witnesses to a fatal road collision in Linton

Police are appealing for witnesses to a fatal collision, that occurred at 8pm on Friday April 4, when a new Ferrari Spider collided with a tree on Caldwell Road, Linton, Swadlincote, Derbyshire. 

The driver of the vehicle, Keith Poynton of Rosliston tragically died at the scene of the collision.  Mr Poynton was an Engineering Director for Briggs of Burton Plc and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

The front seat passenger was his son, Thomas Poynton, 24 years who plays for Derbyshire County Cricket Club as a wicket keeper.  Thomas has sustained an injury to his leg as a result of the collision.

The Collision Investigation Unit, based at Ripley Police Station, is carrying out a thorough investigation into the circumstances of the crash.

Keith’s untimely death leaves behind his two sons, Adam and Thomas along with his wife who was his best friend, Sheena. 

Sheena, Adam and Thomas ask for privacy by the press whilst the collision is being investigated. 

The Derbyshire County Cricket Club will keep the public informed on Thomas’s injuries and his progress.
