Detectives investigating an attempted robbery in which the victim tried to flag down a passing car are appealing for witnesses.
The incident happened in Nottingham Road, Chaddesden at about 5.20am on Sunday, April 27.
The 31-year-old victim was walking along the road towards Pentagon Island when he was punched by the would-be robber and fell into Nottingham Road itself.
He was then told to hand over his valuables but, after trying to flag down a passing car, managed to escape.
The attempted robbery happened next to railings on Nottingham Road, near to an alleyway leading to Lindsey Close.
The offender was white, in his late-20s or early-30s, closely shaved hair, about 6ft tall and of muscular build. He wore a white, red and blue chequered shirt, green combat trousers and white trainers.
