Police appeal for witnesses after a man attempted to break into a house in the High Peak.

On Saturday, August 2 at 3.40pm a man attempted to break into a house on Godward Road, New Mills.

The owner of the house was upstairs when she heard a noise coming from downstairs. She went down to find a man standing outside looking into the house through a shattered window pane. He then ran off towards Aldersgate.

The man was described as white, small build with stocky shoulders and short dark coloured hair. He was wearing a grey body warmer with a red t-shirt underneath.

Anyone with information is asked to contact DC Daniel Hunt at Glossop CID using the 101 non-emergency number.
