Police are appealing for information on an attempted robbery in which three youths tried to take a woman’s purse as she walked home.

The victim had been walking along Ridgeway, in Chellaston, towards the junction with Moyne Gardens, when someone grabbed her coat from behind.

She saw two boys standing behind her and one of them tried to grab her purse, but the victim resisted and they fled empty-handed along with a third youth.

The trio ran off towards St Peter’s Road after the attempted robbery, which happened at about 6.45pm on Wednesday, December 3.

The two offenders who initially grabbed the victim’s coat were of mixed race, aged about 15 or 16, and between 5ft 5ins and 5ft 7ins. They both wore dark clothing. The third offender had a similar description, was also wearing dark clothing and had a baseball cap with the letter ‘N’ on it.

Detectives investigating the robbery want to hear from anyone who saw three youths acting suspiciously in the area around the time of the offence, or who might recognise them from the descriptions.

Witnesses or anyone with information should call Derbyshire police on 101, quoting crime reference 51257/14.
