Four men jailed for more than 10 years for high value cigarette burglaries

Four men jailed for more than 10 years for crimes committed in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire.

On Friday, June 20 at Derby Magistrates Court four Nottingham men pleaded guilty to a number of crimes committed between January and April 2013.

Darrell Brandy (34) of Amersham Rise, Nottingham was sentenced to 18 months in prison for an attempt burglary at GT News in Sandiacre on Monday, April 1 2013.  

Adam Hodgkinson (25) of Retford Road, Ranby received a 15 month sentence for the same theft as Brandy. He also stole a large quantity of cigarettes from a Co-op in Spondon and drove off without making payment for petrol from a petrol station in Ilkeston.

Ian Shakespere (32) of Woodfield Road in Broxtowe was jailed for 3 years and 9 months for the theft of a motor vehicle and two burglaries at Co-op stores where he stole cigarettes and alcohol.

Shane Smith (28) of Silverhill Close in Strelley was sentenced to 4 years in prison after stealing cigarettes from a Co-op in Borrowash. He had also committed crimes in Norfolk and Nottinghamshire.

Hodgkinson and Shakespere had also committed crimes in Nottingham that added to their sentence.  

Detective Constable Denise Sandal said: “These men were committing high value cigarette burglaries and were cross border criminals. The Derbyshire police investigation assisted in detecting crimes in other police forces.”
