Emergency services still present in Newhall

Posted on 27th July 2014

Army bomb disposal experts have carried out six controlled explosions following the discovery of potentially volatile material at a flat in Belvoir Crescent in Newhall.

Homes within a 100 metres of the flat were evacuated last night for the safety of residents. Most people are staying with friends and relatives but others were provided with support by the Derbyshire County Council's emergency planning team and volunteers.

A final search of the flat is being carried out by the police, supported by army  officers, to ensure that all the suspicious material has been found. It is hoped the operation will be completed by late afternoon.

A further update on the situation will be given in two hours.
