Three people arrested on suspicion of drug offences in Derby

Posted on 6th June 2014

Three people were arrested on Tuesday June 3 by officers who are investigating alleged possession of controlled drugs and money laundering.

Officers executed drug warrants at houses on Mellor Street, Allenton and Stanley Road in Alvaston and on a boat moored at Shardlow Marina.

The warrants, granted by magistrates, were issued following information that officers had received from members of the community.

A 30-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman were arrested at the premises on Stanley Road during the search and a 74-year-old woman was later arrested in the city.

The couple who were arrested during the raid were questioned and released on police bail.  The older woman was bailed and will be questioned in due course.

Bags containing what officers believe to be the Class B drug mephedrone also known as M-cat, a large quantity of cash and equipment which could be used for the distribution of drugs were discovered at both houses.

Inspector Andrea Parkin, who is in charge of policing the area, said: “We are carrying out more and more of these operations.  Often when members of the community report their suspicions about drug misuse they think the police should act immediately but it can take time to build up the evidence we need to execute a warrant.

“We are very grateful for all the information we receive from the public and understand how drug misuse can affect the wider community as well as those who are directly involved.

“Anyone with information should contact us on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
