Man assaults two females in Derby

Posted on 13th June 2014

Police in Derby are appealing for witnesses to two sexual assaults in a city shopping centre.

The two offences happened at about 6.20pm yesterday (Thursday June 12) as a man was leaving the toilets near the food court in intu Derby.   He firstly approached a 13-year-old girl, as she was walking towards the toilets, and touched her breast.  She ignored him but then turned round to get help and saw him assault a woman in a similar way. His second victim was a 21-year-old.

The girl told her dad and security staff.  The two members of staff followed the suspect and tried to detain him but he ran off out of the centre.

The man is described as being white with a pale complexion.  He was bare-chested and wearing black jogging bottoms and a black baseball cap.  He had tattoos on both shoulder blades.

Officers would like to hear from anyone who was in the centre at the time who saw the man.

DC Alistair Orpwood, who is investigating the offences, said: “There’s also a possibility that this man assaulted other women or girls and we’d like them to have the confidence to come forward and report it to us.

“This is very unusual behaviour and we’re taking the investigation seriously.  We are working closely with the staff at intu Derby who are supporting our inquiries.

“Anyone with information should contact me on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
