Murder investigation launched in Ilkeston

Posted on 5th May 2014

Police have launched a murder investigation after a woman died in hospital last night.

Officers were called to a small complex of flats on Critchley Street in Ilkeston at 9pm yesterday (Sunday May 4) where they found paramedics treating a 27-year-old woman for injuries.  She was taken to the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham where she died shortly afterwards.

A 49-year-old man was arrested at the scene and remains in police custody today.

The woman's family have been informed of her death but she has not been formally identified.

An incident room has been set up and a Home Office pathologist will carry out a post mortem examination to determine the cause of the woman's death.

Anyone who has any information that would help the police inquiry should ring them on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
