Just before 9am on Friday, April 4 two men went to the home of an 82-year-old man on Mill Lane claiming to be checking the chimney on behalf of the council.
The victim allowed the men into his house and one of the men stayed with him in the living room.
Police believe the other man then searched the house and stole cash. The men left after around ten minutes.
The homeowner then discovered a large amount of cash was missing from an upstairs room and police were alerted.
One of the suspects is described as white with a tanned complexion, around 5ft 7ins tall, between 20 and 30 years old and of a large build.Grassmoor-distraction-burglary-CCTV-2
The second man was of a similar age, build and complexion but was several inches shorter than the first man. They both wore baseball caps, dark padded jackets, dark trousers and boots.
A witness saw two men drop some cash near the victim’s house before picking it up and running away.
Officers would like to speak to anyone who saw two men fitting this description and any suspicious vehicles in the area at the time.
They are particularly keen to speak to parents walking their children to the nearby school around the time of the incident.
Anyone with information or who recognises the men in the images is asked to contact Chesterfield CID on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
