The 27-year-old victim was walking along the alley between New Street and Cleveland Avenue at 10.50am on Monday, May 12 when he was challenged.

One of the offenders demanded his wallet and phone but the man managed to escape without handing anything over.

Two of the would-be robbers were aged between 17 and 22. One was white, 5ft 11ins, with short brown hair, narrow, deep-set eyes and wore blue jeans and a dark hooded top.

The other was white, about 5ft 10ins, of chunky build, with a tanned complexion and messy dark or brown hair. He wore a dark hooded top with a light-coloured Adidas logo on, dark tracksuit bottoms and a chain going from his waistband into a pocket.

There was no description of the third offender.

Police want to hear from witnesses or anyone who might have seen three people matching those descriptions in the area.

Anyone with information should call Derbyshire police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
