Police are urging people to be vigilant after two would-be thieves tried to steal a mobile phone from a coffee shop customer.
The men walked into Caffé Nero, in Buxton’s Spring Gardens, and distracted a customer by placing housing adverts over her phone and asking questions about the content.
After the men left, the customer realised her phone was missing and a member of staff chased the men, catching up with them outside and retrieving the phone.
One of the offenders was in his mid- to late-20s, about 5ft 6ins, of skinny build, and wore a baseball cap, large sunglasses, ripped jeans and a white, short sleeved t-shirt.
The second was in his late-20s, with dark, shaved hair, and wore a grey and purple long sleeved G Star Raw t-shirt, blue jeans and dark trainers.
They were both described as appearing to be of Spanish or Mediterranean origin.
The incident, which happened at about 4.30pm on Wednesday, May 21, follows the theft of a phone from Rachel’s Flowers, in Market Street, Chapel-en-le-Frith, on May 16, by men with similar descriptions, using the same technique.
Police want shoppers and staff to be on their guard and to report suspicious activity or people as soon as they see them.
Anyone with information on the above incident should call Derbyshire police on 101, quoting crime reference 21066/14.
You can also call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
