Sudbury prison absconder is arrested in Derby

A convicted robber who absconded from HMP Sudbury has been recaptured in Derby.

Steven Smith was reported missing from the open prison on the evening of Tuesday, November 11.

An appeal was circulated yesterday for information on the whereabouts of the 22-year-old, who was serving part of a five-year sentence for robbery and possession of an imitation firearm.

Smith, whose last known address was in Mansfield, was arrested in Derby yesterday afternoon and has since been charged with escaping from lawful custody.

He was due to appear at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, November 13.
