A 33-year-old man has been charged with the theft of a Royal British Legion poppy box from a store in Derby city centre.

The Poppy Appeal box had been on a jewellery counter at Argos, in London Road, when it was allegedly stolen by a man who had walked into the store.

A CCTV appeal was circulated by police following the incident, which happened at about 4.50pm on Friday, October 31.

Christopher McNeil, of Tenby Drive, Oakwood, was arrested on suspicion of theft yesterday.

The 33-year-old has now been charged and is due to appear at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court this morning.
