Magistrates in Derby have stripped more than £14,000 from a man after he was charged with several offences in court.
At a hearing under the Proceeds of Crime Act at Derby Magistrates Court on Friday, October 24, a forfeiture order for £14,430 was obtained against Kamran Bhatti.
The act means that anyone who profits from crime can lose the financial and lifestyle gains they have enjoyed.
On Tuesday, March 18, 2014, police were carrying out patrols on a stretch of the A50 trying to locate an Audi S3 belonging to Bhatti who was wanted for other offences.
They came across Bhatti driving the Audi, he failed to stop following a short pursuit. After exiting the vehicle near a canal, he attempted to make off with a large amount of money which he tried to dispose of in the canal.
Officers seized the cash and arrested Bhatti.
On Wednesday, September 10, Kamran Bhatti (33) of Radcliffe Drive, Derby was sentenced at Derby Crown Court to six months imprisonment for possession of criminal property and disqualified from driving for 12 months for dangerous driving.
