Car stolen from man in Derby

Posted on 7th October 2014

Police are appealing for witnesses to the theft of a car from Rose Hill Street in Derby yesterday.

At 5pm on Monday October 6, as a 34-year-old man was getting into a blue Mazda RX8, another man grabbed him from behind and demanded the keys.

The assailant tussled with the driver and managed to steal the keys and the car and drive off.

Shortly afterwards the stolen car collided with some parked cars and a taxi in Madeley Street.  It was then driven back onto Rose Hill Street, followed by the taxi driver, where it became stuck in traffic.

The original victim realised that the offender had returned and he and the taxi driver managed to detain the suspect for a short time before he escaped and ran off towards Normanton Road.

The suspect is described as being white, about 20-years-old, of skinny build and possibly Polish.

There was quite a large crowd of people on Rose Hill Street when the man was detained and officers would like to speak to anyone who was there.

People with information should contact the police on 101 quoting incident number 549/6/10/14.
