Witness appeal after village cricket pavilion is set alight in suspicious fire

Police are appealing for witnesses after a fire at a village cricket pavilion was believed to have been started deliberately.

Emergency services were called to fields off Cockshut Lane, Melbourne, after reports of a fire at the pavilion.

The blaze started in a coil of cricket boundary rope stored behind a scoring hut and caused minor damage to the building. Graffiti was also sprayed at the site and line marking machinery had been tampered with.

An investigation revealed that the fire, had been started deliberately and police are appealing to anyone with information to come forward.

The incident happened at about 7.45pm on Monday, September 1.
