Area is made safe after chemical incident in Derby

Road is re-opened and people are allowed back into their homes after a chemical incident in Derby.

Police were called to business premises on Nuns Street at 5.30pm yesterday (Monday, September 22) after reports of an incident involving hazardous chemicals.

Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service, Ambulance Service and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team were at the scene and were helping to make the area safe.

A police cordon was put in place and people were evacuated from their homes.

After emergency services and the EOD had made the area safe people were allowed back in the area and to their homes at 2am this morning.

Police remain at the scene and an investigation is now underway with the Health and Safety Executive.
