Police are urging people to always check the credentials of unexpected callers after cash was stolen from an elderly man in a distraction burglary.
The 94-year-old victim was at home in Meadow Way, Chellaston, when a man claiming to be an engineer at nearby roadworks.
He asked if he could check the water pressure in the house and, after being let in, told the victim to test the kitchen taps.
While the victim was doing so, the offender stole a large amount of cash and a passport.
The burglary took place between 4pm and 4.30pm on Tuesday, March 31.
Witnesses saw a man described as white, aged around 40, well-built and with dark hair.
Police want to hear from anyone who might know the man responsible.
