Man arrested after bus driver assault

Police are appealing for witnesses to an assault of a bus driver in Heanor.

The bus was being driven along Market Street, close to the Red Lion pub, when the driver spotted a man standing in the road.

The driver stopped the bus and urged the man but to move, but he refused and started to pull the windscreen wipers from the front of the bus.

The driver stepped off the bus and was then assaulted. He later went to King’s Mill Hospital, in Mansfield, for a check-up.

Police want to hear from any witnesses to the incident, which happened at about 11.20pm on Tuesday, March 31.

A 28-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault after the incident and remains in police custody.
